As anticipated, my surgeon cleared me to return to work on July 4th. I worked half days for just over a week, and have been back to my regular hours since then. I still feel exhausted most days by about 2pm, though. The long drive to and from work in the hot summer hasn't been the easiest, but I'm resilient.
I have to say it's been a pretty fantastic summer, despite the wildfires and smoke. I have been able to go swimming in various lakes over the past month and it's been incredible. I've also had the chance to kayak four times thanks to friends and family who have kayaks. It's time to buy my own, I think. Overall, I'm working hard to build up my stamina and get some of my muscle mass back. With my weight loss, I feel pretty weak ... and I'm trying to get used to my new body.
I've been helping to plan and coordinate our cruise to the Mediterranean in November. That's pretty exciting. I'm looking to buy a new, high end digital camera - Canon 7D Mark II - because I want to make sure I have amazing photos to capture the memories.
As for ongoing side effects from my surgery, I started taking Lorna Menosmart Plus supplements to help with the hot flashes. After about 2 weeks, they started to kick in and my hot flashes went away. Unfortunately, I didn't know if it was from the supplements or if my ovaries started working again, so a few weeks later, I stopped taking the pills. So the hot flashes came back. Lesson learned. I'm now back on the supplements and waiting for them to kick in again.
On a positive note, I have some sensation now when I have to urinate. Phew! It's not as strong as before, but at least I know when I should be heading to the washroom.
I'm a little disconcerted that I'm still not completely healed on the inside, though. It's been just over 3 months, so I didn't expect that there would still be bleeding. My last appointment with the surgeon was July 3rd, and he said that the scar tissue bleeds easily. Anyway, my next appointment is at the beginning of October, so hopefully by then I'll be completely healed up.
Here's a photo I took of the sunset just before we got off the ferry in Powell River last weekend.
