So as I sit day after day waiting for follow-up appointments and information, I am learning. I believe that the amount of waiting that people have to do after diagnosis is cruel and unusual punishment. The mind can wander into territory that only induces more stress and fear. So I am absorbing information. Learning. Reading. Verifying. I have seen quite a bit of evidence that diets of brown rice, vegetables, and also lemon peel have proven highly successful. Most intriguing, however, is there are a lot of people who have stories about cannabis oil (CBD) and how it's actually targeted the cells at the tumour site. I don't trust testimonials ... I like to find more concrete evidence. So, here are some research studies that I found:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15047233
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27586579
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19914218
Ultimately, I don't understand all the scientific language in the studies, but I've read enough of them in my previous position to get the gist. There is definitely evidence to support that cannabidiol (CBD) has induced apoptosis in cells. What is apoptosis? In simple terms, it's cell death.
I also tried to find evidence or testimonials from people who had tried CBD oil and it didn't work. I couldn't find anything related to my specific diagnosis stating that it didn't work for people, but I found some contradictory stories for other types.
Figuring the benefits would outweigh the risks based on what I read, I bought some CBD oil with almost no THC in it today. There is some inconsistency about dosage amounts, but my plan is to do one drop (approx the size of a grain of rice) once per day before bed for 3 to 5 days, then I'll increase to one drop twice per day. So, I put one drop on my finger and rubbed it under my tongue.
I've already cut all sugar, red meat, alcohol and caffeine from my diet. And most fatty foods. I am only eating oatmeal with blueberries or a hard-boiled egg on a slice of toast for breakfast. I've been eating fruits, vegetables, almonds, and either cottage cheese or yogurt for lunch (although I'm thinking of reducing my dairy, as well). For dinner, I've been only having chicken or fish with either rice, salad, or vegetables. I think I'm going to switch to only brown rice now. I've had no in-between snacks, either... just herbal teas or fruit. I did have an egg salad sandwich on whole wheat bread yesterday, and didn't put much mayonnaise in it ... just added onion, salt and pepper.
I am not interested in taking vitamin supplements, as some are known to reverse the effects of treatment. Anything ingested naturally through food is the best way forward for me.
I actually felt quite positive today because for the first time, I feel like I'm taking some control back. I'm making decisions on my own treatment. It's tough having to put faith and trust in our medical system and doctors that you don't know... particularly when it's a topic that you're not an expert on.
Tomorrow is my 47th birthday. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'm not a big fan of my birthday, in general, but this year I'd just as soon let it come and go. Maybe I'll feel differently tomorrow, but I doubt it.
Took this photo on my way to pick up my sister from the ferry. I love where I live!
